  • Evelina Colacino was just tagged in a comment: That's an interesting point, Alisha. The "green costs more" pushback is probably the #1 barrier students face with supervisors. And yeah, the ACS GCI tools (Solvent Selection Guide, PMI calculator, etc.) are fantastic for comparing environmental and safety metrics. But they don't directly answer the budget question. That got me thinking, what if someone built a simple, open-access Excel tool that does a techno-economic analysis (TEA) side-by-side? You Input your reaction scale, solvent/reagent costs, disposal fees, energy, yield differences, and labor. And then it spits out a total cost comparison between traditional vs. greener routes. Nothing fancy, just transparent unit economics. We do already have preliminary FREE filter apps for greener alternatives. Adding a financial feasibility layer feels like the missing link to turn a "no" from a PI into "okay, let's test it." Has anyone here built something like that for their own lab? Or found a good template to adapt? I'd like to hear from @Nikki Man and @Evelina Colacino. Would love to hear if this already exists (e.g., green chem metrics) or if people would use it....
