Bio

I manage the laboratory staff for Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Astronomy, Geology, Geography, Environmental Science and Nutrition at Central New Mexico Community College. I work closely with our faculty in those departments and have some input on curriculum design, but my main focus with regards to green chemistry is keeping our occupational safety programs robust.

  • Altering existing laboratory curriculum to eliminate or reduce the usage of hazardous or environmentally damaging chemicals.
  • Writing an SOP for student glove usage in chemistry laboratories that considers material compatibility, flame/heat hazards associated with glove use, and environmental concerns with solid waste streams.
  • Centralizing/standardizing/digitizing laboratory safety protocols and documentation.
  • Phasing in greener lab equipment.
