GANIYAT K. OLOYEDE - BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Dr. Ganiyat Kehinde, OLOYEDE was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria on the 26th of March, 1971. She attended University of Ibadan where she bagged B.Sc Second Class honours Upper Division in Chemistry (1992), M. Sc (Pharmaceutical Chemistry, 1997) and PhD (Pharmacy, 2005). She obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from National Open University of Nigeria (2015), Certificates in Conflict Analysis Course from The United State Institute of Peace (2015),United Nations' Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) (2016), United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) General Awareness of Hazardous Materials (2016), Laboratory Safety and Chemical Hygiene (2016), Human Health-Diet and Nutrition (2016), Research Writing in Sciences (2019), Achieving Sustainable Development Goals on Water and Sanitation (2021), Inclusive Digital Economies and Gender Equality (2022), Rethinking Higher Education Financing and Policies in a Changing World (2022), Private Financing for Infrastructure and Sustainable Growth (ADBI, Japan), (2022) , From innovative ideas to Scholarly Books in Life and Earth Sciences (Taylor and Francis group) (2022), Peer Review (Springer Nature, USA, Elsevier Researcher Academy, USA, ACS on Campus, USA. Recipient of 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Chemistry Festival Grant of the American Chemical Society (ACS), ACS International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT) Activity Grant (2019), ACS International Student Activity Grant (2019), ACS Programming grant (2020), ACS Student Group Development & Engagement Grant (2 x Winner) (2021) and 2023, ACS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Respect (DEIR) Faculty Advisor Grant (2 x Winner) (2021), (2023) and ACS Professional Meeting/Travel Grant (2022), Royal Society of Chemistry UK Global Women Breakfast/IUPAC grant (2022 and 2023), Global Innovation Grant of the American Chemical Society (2022) and Women Chemists Committee (WCC) of American Chemical Society grant (2022) in respect of 95th Anniversary Celebration. She also received Certificate of Appreciation for organising successful 2022 and 2023 IUPAC Global Women Breakfast event and the American Chemical Society (ACS) Outstanding Student Chapter Award for University of Ibadan International Student Chapter 2021-2022/2022-2023 for organising youth programmes to sentisize them of education and STEMM especially the female gender as the faculty advisor.
All these grants are used to support youth especially the girl child and women in general, sensitizing girls and women on entrepreneurship, skill acquisition and youth participation in STEMM.

She is a fellow and member of many professional bodies, Institute of Chartered Chemist of Nigeria, Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, Chemical Society of Nigeria, Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World, Italy, American Chemical Society, USA, Asian Council of Science Editors and so on. Her research interest includes Natural Product Chemistry Research, Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry, education and gender. She has over 80 published academic journals to her credit and is still actively engaged in many collaborative research activities. She has attended many workshops, leadership summit and conferences and delivered papers in different fields ranging from education, food, pharmaceutical, gender equality and Natural product chemistry research both locally and internationally serving as a resource person and the experiences she gains is transferred to students, increases her research output and community services. Several community programmes has been initiated by her to train youths and women to be self reliant.
Her work experience has spanned over the years having worked briefly as a Chemistry teacher during the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Government College Ekori, in Cross Rivers State, Nigeria 1993-1994. She proceeded to Government Technical College, Oyo in Oyo State as an Education Officer/Chemistry Lecturer (1994 – 1997). In 1997, she transferred her appointment to Ministry of Health Department of Food, Drugs and Laboratory Services (Public Health Laboratory) Oyo State, Nigeria as a Scientific Officer and rose to the rank of Chief Scientific Officer/Acting Assistant Director, a position she held until her transfer to Department of Chemistry, University of Ibadan, Nigeria as a Chemistry Lecturer in April 2008. Due to her brilliant performance while at the Ministry of Health, she was seconded to the Office of the then Wife of the State Governor in 2001 as a Programme Officer/Project Supervisor for the NGO “Health is Wealth Programme”. She is presently a Professor of Organic Chemistry. Her scope of activities includes lecturing, research and community service. She is a facilitator/Supervisor for chemistry courses at the National Open University of Nigeria, Ibadan Study Centre Oyo State as well as the Faculty Advisor/ Career Consultant for the American Chemical Society Student Chapter for University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She has served as a motivator, influencer, mentor, counsellor etc to many students.
In her professional career as a Scientist in STEMM, most Universities in developing counties do not have state of the art facility that can enable quality research. Knowledge and exposure she gained travelling to other countries for collaboration and conferences has assisted her in furtherance of her academic and research activities. She has credit in isolating new compounds which are new additions to metabolites in the chemistry of Natural Products. She has also synthesized new Mannich bases which are novel to the library of synthetic organic compounds. The leadership qualities, experiences, ability to connect and network with a wide range of individuals, from school children to PhD students, policymakers etc are qualities that made her to be nominated as Vice president (Africa) Organization for Women in Science for the developing World Italy, in 2021. In 2022, she was also nominated for the Linkage’s Women in Leadership Executive Impact Award and the Nature Research Awards for Inspiring Women in Science Award for Science (STEMM) Outreach amongst others. She is a Career Consultant to American Chemical Society, USA and a Professional mentor to Royal Society of Chemistry, UK. She is a reviewer to many International journal publishers.
Her co–curriculum activities are reading and writing short stories and poems. Dr Ganiyat Oloyede is a dynamic, intelligent and versatile young lady. Her community service ranges from being adviser/consultant/analyst to producers of herbal medicine amongst others. She is also very passionate about gender inclusion in education and top managerial positions. She is married and blessed with children.
