Bio

Ruby Hanson earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry Education from the University of Education, Winneba in 2014. She holds a Master's degree in Environmental Chemistry and toxicology Studies from the University of Cape Coast, all in Ghana.
Through her doctoral studies, Ruby researched into how to identify students' conceptual challenges in their study of chemistry, its causes and how to alleviate them through innovative practices. She played a pivotal role in the use of micro chemistry equipment for safer practical activities to facilitate interest, conceptual understanding, reduce time for laboratory practice and develop a sense of sustainability and green practice. Her current projects are the development and integration of systems thinking and social sciences approaches into existing chemistry curricula to give learners a holistic training space, and for them to relate scientific concepts to everyday living more understandably.
Ruby is dedicated to developing pre-service teachers to be environmentally conscious. with support from the American Chemical Society, in the for of festival grants, many young learners in her community have also ben introduced to the concepts of green science and sustainability through chemistry yearly chemistry festivals.
