Bio

I am passionate about providing access to educational opportunities that equip all learners with the knowledge and skills essential for the 21st century, which includes Green Chemistry and Systems Thinking. I demonstrate a strong passion and commitment to chemistry education by recently completing a PhD specializing in chemistry education research with Dr. Alison Flynn, a leading expert in the field. I am currently implementing green and sustainable chemistry principles and systems thinking in CHEM 1101 Chemistry for Engineers at Carleton University.

  • Alisha Szozda was just tagged in a comment: @Alisha Szozda I have not done a good job in assessing the content I have taught. My ETox class does not have a final (they do presentations) and we only had one open-book quiz on green chem (they did well). My GOB course did a little bit of green chem and there is a question on my final, but my final is optional so there it is. However, your question does inspire me to consider including more (any) assessments next term....
  • Alisha Szozda was just tagged in a comment: Hi Bob, thanks for posting about this! I think a microscale chemistry group would be great to have on the GCTLC and we'd be happy to help get that set up. I believe that @tsupawan has done work in the past on microscale chemistry (see a recent article here: https://www.degruyterbrill.com/document/doi/10.1515/cti-2024-0091/html) and there are undoubtedly others who would have interest. I'm tagging in our Chief Moderator @Alisha Szozda who can help get a group started for you, but the only two pieces of information we'll need before we do that are: Visibility: Do you want the group to be visible to the public, visible only to other GCTLC users here on the platform (not the public), or completely private (only group members can see it)?Access: Would you like people to be able to join the group any time, or do you want to approve their membership before they join? You can also choose to have it be by invitation only (meaning the only way they can participate is if you invite them).Once we have these two options chosen, we can get the group started and the remaining details (description, keyword tags, group image, etc.) can be updated later....

  • Alisha Szozda was just tagged in a comment: Hi @Alisha Szozda !!!Thank you for this nice thread!! I feel very happy that this work is being useful to you! Those questions were prepared by Dr. Bongers, Dr. Jessop and the undergraduate during a 4th-year project. I know that Dr. Bongers has an entire team focused on Education, but I can't confirm if necessarily she has a team focused on creating those types of questions.I am particularly interested in creating questions about LCAs and its related topics and apply them in a teaching context. Let's keep the conversation up!...
