Prof. Carolina Lima

Carolina Lima obtained her Bachelor in Chemistry degree in 2009 from Federal University of Goiás, and MSc in Chemistry from the same institution in 2011. She conducted her PhD in Organic Chemistry under the guidance of Márcio Paixão at the Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil, which included a research stage at the Regional Centre of Advanced Technologies and Materials at Olomouc, Czech Republic, under the guidance of Prof. Radek Zboril and Dr. Rajender S. Varma. Throughout her PhD, which was concluded in 2016, she researched the preparation of new supported catalysts for application in multicomponent reactions and in the conversion of biomass-derived compounds. She worked as research manager in the Centre of Excellence for Research in Sustainable Chemistry (CERSusChem), which is financed by FAPESP and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) at UFSCar during the year of 2017. In 2018, she started a post-doctoral research stage at the Fluminense Federal University having Prof. Fernando Carvalho da Silva as supervisor and Prof. Vitor Ferreira as collaborator, having been awarded a "FAPERJ Nota 10" fellowship. She became a "Jovem Pesquisadora Fluminense" in 2022, and in the same year, Associate Professor at UFF's Organic Chemistry Department. She is a full member of the Brazilian Chemical Society, and a member of the board of the Division of Catalysis. She is a faculty member of the Chemistry Graduate Program at UFF (PPGQ-UFF) and is head of the Sustainable Organic Chemistry Group (OrgSus), whose research interests are centered around the development of more sustainable approaches in organic synthesis, including the obtainment of new eco-catalysts for organic reactions from metal hyperaccumulating water plants and the obtainment of value-added molecules employing biomass-derived compounds.
