Bio
As the President of the Board Of Directors of ISBER, Dr. Grossman works across the globe to help biobanks and biorepositories build sustainable and eco-friendly operations. He works directly with over 100 labs, has given global conference keynotes and plenary lectures on greener operations, written thought pieces on carbon footprint reduction, and is an editor of ISBER's Best Practices (5th edition) - the standard guidance used throughout the world. He is certified in Green Laboratory operations (February 2024-February 2026 My Green Lab Accredited Professional) and winner of the International Laboratory Freezer Challenge - Hospital/Clinical/Biorepository (International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories and My Green Lab).
Besides the thousands of individuals attending his educational talks, Dr. Grossman works with medical students and has a curriculum that teaches sustainable and lab practices. As CSO of Precision Ocular Network (formerly Advancing Sight Network) he has led efforts reduce plastic waste, carbon use and replace harmful chemicals in eight labs across seven states within the clinical and research network (over 200 employees). Dr. Grossman also is an advocate for green chemistry as he sits on several bioeconomic boards, balancing the need of economic growth in lifesciences with ecological impact.
He is a huge advocate of the OneHealth principles (interdependence of human, animal and ecosystem health) and has spoken on this topic last year at international conferences in South Africa and Australia.

Ongoing Projects
One on going project is that I formed a partnership between the International Society of Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) and My Green Labs (MGL), based on my standing relationship and training with this group. Although I can make a positive impact across my teaching and training responsibilities, having the global stage as President of ISBER allows me to have a greater impact. This new partnership will afford the ability ISBER members to access MGL training material and attend online events at a reduced cost. This is especially important to our members in low- and middle-income regions, but also to those the US in which funding all over has been dramatically reduced and regulations are often state-determined and unclear. This partnership led to the first webinar between our groups on March 25th, 2026, entitled “How Biobanks and Laboratories Can Lead the Way to a More Sustainable Future”. My goal is to push this partnership to be more formative for our members and impactful. My hope is that with further education and training afforded through the Green Chemistry Professional Mentoring Networks, I can reach undergraduates, graduates, employees and stakeholders around the globe and in the US, where lab waste is unchecked.
The other project is that I am preparing to build the 6th edition of the ISBER Best Practices and wish to best incorporate teaching, training and applying Green Chemistry. This resource is used throughout the word and update periodically. This is utilized to build curriculum in multiple countries and is the foundation for certifications, building SOPs and standards. Sadly, the current edition has a dearth of material on green chemistry practices, and here too, the Green Chemistry Professional Mentoring Networks training would allow me to make a greater impact as an Editor. For biobanks that seek to save ecosystem diversity, bank seeds that are critical for food supplies and drive precision medicine, it is through ignorance and old standards of practice that they continue to use hash and toxic chemicals – injuring human, animals and ecosystems.
