Bio

Kariluz Dávila is an Associate Professor at UPR-RP. She earned her BS in 2000 and Ph.D. in 2006 from the University of Puerto Rico. In 2007, she completed a chemical education internship at the University of Arizona, where she developed digital instructional materials. Since 2006, she has been working in the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. She also serves as Associate Director of the NASA Puerto Rico Space Grant Consortium, which supports the development of science and technology in Puerto Rico.
Dr. Dávila's primary research interests are in Chemistry Education, with a focus on strategies to support first-year student retention, adjustment to university life, and mentoring. Her current work includes developing innovative strategies and digital resources that promote active learning and conceptual understanding, aligned with Universal Design for Learning to ensure inclusivity and accessibility. She also investigates whether students' algebraic skills can predict their grades in General Chemistry 1.
