University of Toledo

Bio

Mark R. Mason is a Professor of Chemistry and Director of the School of Green Chemistry and Engineering at The University of Toledo. He received a B.S. in Chemistry from Bowling Green State University, and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Iowa State University before completing his postdoctoral research at Harvard University. His research has included the development of organoaluminum complexes for applications in catalysis, polymerization catalysis, hydroformylation, ligand design, and more recently, the development of BODIPY dyes and iron catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. His green chemistry curricular activities have included the development of an in-person and online green chemistry course, a Minor in Green Chemistry and Engineering, and an M.S. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a Concentration in Green Chemistry and Engineering (formerly a Professional Science Master’s Degree). A new, 12-credit hour online graduate certificate in Green Chemistry and Engineering has also been developed and will be available beginning in the fall of 2024. Professor Mason is currently working with Monica Nyansa at Beyond Benign, Cynthia Woodbridge at Georgia Gwinnett College, and Heather McKenney and Gabrielle Rigutto at ChemForward to develop a curricular module on the “Use of ChemForward for Chemical Hazard Evaluation and Assessment in Academic Settings.”
