Bio
By training, I am a physical chemist with specialties in materials and computational chemistry. I’ve earned certificates in Sustainability and Green Chemistry since completing my PhD. I have been involved with green chemistry and Beyond Benign since 2016. I started out learning about it and wanted to learn more, so I just kept going. Since I started this journey, I have gotten more involved with toxicology - I am in the rotation to teach Environmental Toxicology and am taking courses to improve my knowledge.

Do you want to share what worked well? or things you want to work on for next year?Anyone can chime in (please do) but calling out @cmwoodbridge and @Julian Silverman as they were both brave enough to post (thank you :)). ...
- cmwoodbridge was just tagged in a comment: Hello @cmwoodbridge , thank you for your response. That is a very interesting direction. I had not considered repurposing these microplastics, but I may explore that possibility. I would be very interested to hear how your project develops....
- cmwoodbridge was just tagged in a comment: Hi @cmwoodbridge . I was thinking about ADME and meant to message you a while back.Have you played with the Safer Chemical Design Game?https://modrn.yale.edu/education/undergraduate-curriculum/modrn-u-modules/safer-chemical-designIf so, I would be curious to hear your thoughts. If not, it might be of interest for one of your classes....
- cmwoodbridge was just tagged in a comment: Hi @cmwoodbridge, I was actually considering starting a discussion on these chemical toxicology tools myself, so I am very glad to see you have already posted about it. In my certificate program at the Yale School of the Environment, we are learning how to use diverse tools to understand chemical toxicology, biodegradability, and degradation products. However, since every tool has limitations, I'm curious: which open-access chemical toxicology tools are generally accepted by reputable journals for publication?...
- cmwoodbridge was just tagged in a comment: @cmwoodbridge @Michelle Ernst Modera The following could be of interest to educators. The ACS Fall 2026 Conference (Chicago, Aug 23-27) has added an afternoon session for symposia on Laboratory Safety Practices, Students with Disabilities in Chemistry (lecture/lab), and Chemistry & Art. I see it as an opportunity to share green chemistry practices on those topics. Let's get those abstracts ready!...

Here are a few resources from the Interstate Technology Regulatory Council (ITRC) that are open access on some emerging contaminants: PFAS- https://pfas-1.itrcweb.org/ (note there are sections on humnan health and ecological toxicity)6PPD and 6PPD-Quinone - https://6ppd.itrcweb.org/ Biological contaminants of Emerging concern - https://cec-bio.itrcweb.org/ Microplastics - https://mp-1.itrcweb.org/Contaminants of Emerging concern framework- https://itrcweb.org/cec-framework-guide/ ...
- cmwoodbridge was just tagged in a comment: Hi @cmwoodbridge , have you come up with some ideas? If you need more, should we brainstorm?...
- cmwoodbridge was just tagged in a comment: Do you think these “culprits” are common across laboratories, @cmwoodbridge?I also remember that @Patrick Penndorf shared an article about this on LinkedIn, but I’m not sure whether it focused more on lab consumables and equipment that runs overnight. It made me wonder how laboratories in developing countries could benefit from this as well....
