Rashmi Sanghi

Prof. Rashmi Sanghi, is currently serving as a Professor in School of Chemical Sciences, Amity University Punjab, India. As she embarks on her new career phase as one of the most senior Professors of the institute, soon to be heading the School of Chemical Sciences in one of the most reputed private Universities of the country, I am confident that Rashmi will continue to excel and inspire her colleagues and students.
A distinguished researcher and academician, she embarked on her academic journey after completing her PhD in 1994. Her professional trajectory led her to the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), where she became a pivotal contributor to various scientific projects spanning a diverse array of domains such as Green chemistry, environmental studies, pesticides, nanotechnology, wastewater treatment, bioremediation using bacteria and fungi, and the Ganga River.
In 2012, her exceptional contributions were acknowledged with the prestigious CHEMRAWN VII Prize for Atmospheric and Green Chemistry at the 4th International IUPAC Conference on Green Chemistry. Dr. Sanghi's innovative methods aimed at minimizing hazardous substances in the environment were highlighted, particularly her groundbreaking work in biomimetic synthesis of nanoparticles using fungi and polysaccharides. Additionally, her focus on green technologies based on biopolymers for wastewater remediation gained international recognition.
During her tenure at IIT Kanpur, Dr. Sanghi set up a textile testing laboratory and later managed a BIRAC-funded bio-incubator, which, under her leadership, achieved self-sustainability. She played a crucial role in overseeing the laboratory's overall management, ensuring state-of-the-art equipment upkeep, and facilitating specialized training. Beyond this, Dr. Sanghi actively mentored students, facilitated projects, and contributed to the commercialization aspects of intellectual property at SIIC at IIT Kanpur. Her influence extended beyond academia to engagements with ministries such as the Ministry of Textiles, National Mission Clean Ganga, and institutions like the Indian Institute of Public Administration, Delhi, where she served as a consultant.
Internationally recognized for her research, Dr. Rashmi Sanghi ranks among the top 2% of researchers globally, as per a comprehensive study by Stanford University based on Scopus scientometric data analysis, published in the esteemed Journal Plos – One. With over 80 reputable publications, three patents, and six books to her credit, this accolade underscores her exceptional standing in the global research community (h factor 42).
Her engagement in the Ganga-related project since 2010 showcased her multifaceted skills. Beyond research, she designed and managed the project's website, acted as a knowledge repository, and enhanced awareness through capacity-building initiatives and media partnerships. Currently, leveraging her extensive experience, Dr. Sanghi focuses on knowledge modeling for India's national river Ganga, aspiring to create a tailored monograph/Ganga atlas for school children. The relevance of her contributions becomes even more pronounced in the context of a developing country like India. Her work addresses critical environmental and sustainability challenges faced by the nation, offering innovative solutions that align with the needs of a developing society. By actively participating in projects related to the Ganga River, she contributes to the preservation of a vital natural resource, aligning her research with the socio-economic and environmental priorities of India. Furthermore, her involvement in setting up scientific facilities and mentoring students plays a crucial role in nurturing indigenous talent and fostering a culture of scientific innovation within the country.
