Dr. Ray Borg
Lecturer
University of Hawai'i Maui College
Bio
Ray Borg, Ph.D., is a biochemist and educator who acts as a catalyst for integrating green chemistry into academic institutions. During his time at the University of Massachusetts Boston, he sparked a department-wide green chemistry initiative. Professionally, his M.Sc. research focused on designing molecular photoacoustic contrast agents , while his Ph.D. work at UC Santa Barbara involved bioengineering bacteriophage-based contrast agents to detect bacterial infections in mice via MRI. Now a Chemistry Lecturer at the University of Hawai'i Maui College, Ray continues to drive change by motivating the STEM department to sign the Green Chemistry Commitment. By combining his specialized research background with a mission for environmental stewardship, Ray ensures that sustainable principles are central to the education of the next generation of scientists.
