In collaboration with the Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI), this curated collection will highlight curriculum materials and resources on the GCTLC that highlight safer laboratories, including at the K-12 and higher education levels. Green chemistry and safer chemistry are intricately linked, with the latter being a critical aspect of the former and the former being an excellent approach to achieving the latter. This collection includes blog posts, safer approaches to laboratory experiments for students, safer approaches to managing chemical inventories, videos on safer chemistry, and more. Submissions are welcome from all community members who wish to contribute to the collection.

A guide to using the Greener Alternatives Evaluation Matrix (DOZN™ 2.0) in Academic Settings for Safer Labs
This learning object presents an overview of DOZN™ 2.0, the free web-based quantitative green chemistry evaluator by MilliporeSigma. It also provides specific rules for utilizing the tool in academic settings as well as a template worksheet for students, with select reactions with DOZN™ 2.0 scoring to serve as introductory examples.
Approaches to Incorporating Green Chemistry and Safety into Laboratory Culture
This is an open access article linked from the Journal of Chemical Education article. It highlights a systems thinking approach to incorporating green chemistry and safety into laboratory culture. This article, emphasizes how framing green chemistry through the lens of systems thinking can build a culture of safety in the laboratory.
Chemical Hazard Awareness Module
The Chemical Hazard Awareness Module is designed to be used in conjunction with a laboratory exercise that you currently use in your classroom or laboratory. We have outlined this exercise for use with Beyond Benign’s laboratory exercise “Reactions Lab” (found online here: http://www.beyondbenign.org/K12education/highschool.html). The Reactions Lab allows students to observe different types of ...
Improving Lab Safety and Reducing Chemical Hazards in the Laboratory Classroom
Free, asynchronous, online, on-demand course available now.
The laboratory environment has many risks associated with chemical hazards. Teachers, researchers, staff, and students benefit when an effective chemical management system goes beyond simply complying with local, state, and federal standards. The laboratory community is seeking new tools and best practices for creating a safe learning ...
Is your lab safety training - safe?
The article "Is Your Lab Safety Training — Safe?" from the Lab Safety Institute emphasizes that safety training itself must adhere to rigorous safety standards. It highlights a real incident where a chemical demonstration led to an unintended explosion, underscoring the need for thorough risk assessments, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and strict adherence to safety protocols ...
Trifold for lab waste education Part 1
We provide essential guidelines for the proper disposal of laboratory waste at North Carolina State University (NCSU). By following the procedures outlined in this pamphlet, we can minimize the risk of contamination, reduce hazardous waste, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. At NCSU, this pamphlet will be distributed to all laboratory personnel and integrated into safety training ...
