Calling all faculty, administrators, staff, and students from Green Chemistry Commitment (GCC) signing institutions! Join Beyond Benign and the green chemistry community at the 2025 GCC Summit. Given our growing global community, there are two offerings to join us—virtually on June 18th and/or in person on June 22nd in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is your chance to learn about resources available through the GCC, connect with your peers and colleagues in the green chemistry field, and discuss how you can further the integration of green chemistry at your institution. We hope to see you there!

About the GCC Summit
Integrating green chemistry into our higher education system is fundamental. During the GCC Summit, you will be able to connect with our growing and inspiring community of chemists and educators from around the globe; gain valuable connections, resources, and insights; and learn how you can be an essential part of a systemic change in chemistry education.

Why attend?
Our 8th annual GCC Summit is designed to support you in deepening green chemistry engagement on your campus. This year’s GCC Summit will include:

• Panel discussions and networking sessions.
• Updates from Beyond Benign’s Higher Education team about the GCC program and available resources.
• Networking sessions with GCC signers on topics, including: advocating for green chemistry to peers and administration; developing departmental plans integrating green chemistry; approaches for engaging students; and available resources for continued professional development.

What you get to experience:

• Immersive workshop with breakout sessions for teachers (grades 6-12) and higher-ed faculty
• “Train-the-trainer” day for lab inspections and chemical management systems
• Hands-on lab demonstrations
• Safety in Leadership workshop for administrators

All sessions run 8:00am to 4:00pm PT (11:00am to 7:00pm ET), with the exception of the last day as a half day.

Held virtually, at two separate times to accommodate the diversity of institutions connected through the GCC program, this Summit will take place on Thursday, June 13^th via Zoom. Attendees are encouraged to participate throughout the day, should your schedule allow, as they will include different community members to engage with through the breakout sessions.

The Philippine Chemistry Congress is the biggest annual conference of chemists, chemistry educators and chemistry researchers in the Philippines. This brings chemists from academe, industry and government together in one venue to interact, share new knowledge and to collaborate. The 38PCC&2024IC2 will also feature technical exhibitors who will be able to showcase new products that can improve your performance and productivity, create partnerships, and generate new ideas.

My Green Lab's annual virtual summit is back in 2024. This year's event will unveil new tools and program updates, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement based on the input of our expert stakeholder community. As the green lab movement grows and matures, the need for better data, tools, and third-party verification is crucial. Join us as we reshape the future of sustainable laboratory practices worldwide.

In June 2023 AASHE piloted the first Sustainability Education Forum. Over 140 registrants from 13 countries across five continents came together to discuss and listen about the challenges and opportunities for sustainability education. Attendees felt that the event facilitated “inspiring, engaging, and meaningful discussions,” provided “a very holistic way of structuring learning and sharing,” and fostered “an inspirational sense of community.” Read more about the 2023 event in this article and these testimonials.

We’d like to build upon that experience and invite you to join the Sustainability Education Forum 2024 on June 6 & 7! Let’s come together, share our expertise and co-create our emerging future. What and how do we teach students given the urgency of the times? How do we “fall-forward” on issues related to sustainability teaching and learning in higher education? Let’s use this opportunity to listen and speak about the issues that matter to interdisciplinary sustainability educators.
 

Are higher education institutions simply reverting to how things were done pre-pandemic or can we use this opportunity to truly redesign systems? New and different voices need to be heard and conversations need to catalyze actionable change. On June 6 and 7, let’s talk with each other, think with each other and respectfully challenge each other’s ideas in order to advance sustainability education across the curriculum.

The Sustainability Education Forum (SEF) will provide space to explore these possibilities and more. Per the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a forum is “a public meeting place for open discussion” and this is what the SEF offers – a space for authentic conversations, where we can engage as a community and with each other. Throughout the SEF, you will have plenty of chances to exchange ideas and make new professional connections, while gaining inspiration and an opportunity to recharge your own efforts. 

Intended Audience
 

This is the event to attend if you’re:

• a faculty in any discipline who is engaged with sustainability education
• interested in or just starting incorporating sustainability literacy in your courses
• considering building a sustainability curriculum development program at your institution
• new or a veteran at building sustainability across the curriculum programs
• involved with sustainability-degree programs
• a sustainability staff who is involved with curriculum initiatives
• an instructional designer supporting faculty incorporating sustainability in their courses
• anyone interested in sustainability education and research at higher education institutions.

At this event, you will connect with others who approach their work with the same sense of urgency that you do. It is these types of connections that serve us throughout the years; they make the hard times manageable and the good times fun. Join us and let’s make some good times — together!
